Not. So. Fast. The Defense Department will continue allowing the use of cellphones at the Pentagon, but there will be strictly enforced rules to already existing rules to stop cell phones from being brought into secure areas inside the headquarters.
The new policy issued from Defense Secretary James Mattis says that the policy applies to DoD personnel, contractors and visitors of the Pentagon.
Defense Secretary Mattis initiated a review of cellphone use at the Pentagon last year to improve information security in the building. Patrick Shanahan, the Deputy Secretary of Defense, signed a memo, which outlines the new policy that is being enforced. Cell phones and mobile devices will be placed in small storage boxes or lockers outside of secure areas throughout the building.
The Pentagon sees mobile devices as cell phones, laptops, tablets, smart-watches and those portable devices that can wirelessly transmit or receive information. This means there will most likely be a lot more lockboxes throughout the Pentagon because of the new policy in order.
The military and civilian employees at the Pentagon are still allowed to bring their personal cellphones to the building, but there is no cellphone reception throughout a majority of the building.
Looks like you’ll have to wait to call our phone lines if you are one of the 23,000 military and civilian employees at the Pentagon. With so many food trucks around the Pentagon and Pentagon City because of all the government buildings, the foodie trucks offer a great opportunity to get out of the office and call up our phone lines. It’s even a great spot to take a new date that you just met on your local phonesex chat line, he or she is just one call away.
